Original Item: Only One Available. The First World War which started just 104 years ago in 1914 was initially a very patriotic war. All sorts of Regiments were raised, expanded and added Volunteer Battalions to help in the “Great Crusade” using the catch phrase:-

IT’LL ALL BE OVER BY CHRISTMAS!!

How wrong they were!

Here is a Regimental Bugle, of perfectly standard brass and copper construction made and has a regimental brass badge soldered onto the bell, reading:

ROYAL WELSH FUSILIERS

The badge has a large 23 in the middle, and is in the shape of a flaming grenade, the standard insignia of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, also known as the 23rd regiment of foot. The regiment has had various names over the years, and the spelling of “Welsh” indicates that this was issued before 1920, when the the archaic spelling “Welch” was restored. Unfortunately, the placement of the badge is exactly where maker information for the bugle would have been, so we cannot see who the maker is.

This Bugle, which is totally authentic, has lain in an attic for probably 75 years, and does not appear to have seen much field use. The mouthpiece is a replacement, and it does have some dents from storage. Still, it does ring clearly when blown. According to the family this was brought back from the trenches during that awful conflict of WWI.

A true “sleeper”, this bugle is uncleaned and ready to display.
