Original Item: One of a Kind. We received this out of long time storage in our large Optic’s buy of 2017 in England. This is a very nice Royal Navy single draw telescope, which looks to be made of nickel and brass, with a leather covering. It could however be nickel plated brass, however it definitely is not steel, as the telescope is totally non magnetic. It features an extending front sun shield and has a shutter on the eyepiece as well. It measures 17 3/4″ closed and opens to 23 1/4″ when fully extended with the sunshield. Appears to be good working order with nice optics.
It is maker marked by the eyepiece:
H. HUGHES & SON LTD
59 Fenchurch ST
LONDON
416 409 / 3858
It is also engraved with the name of the owner:
J. H. Carrow R. N.
Of J. H. Carrow we have unfortunately not been able to find any definitive information, however this is definitely a very nice example of a WWI Royal Navy telescope. The optics could use a good cleaning, but otherwise it is in very good condition.
