Original Item: One of a Kind. We have never seen a telescope setup quite like this before! It consists of a very fine leather covered Three Draw brass telescope, measuring 32″ when fully extended and only 13″ when fully collapsed. The brass barrel has the French makers name as well as British acceptance markings:
E. VION Paris
S 2. 285
(Broad Arrow)
The telescope is still fully functional, with clear optics giving a good image. The tube nearest the eye piece is marked with ranging rings, which are marked 20 / 25 / 30, for 200, 250, and 300 yards. This way, the telescope could be used to set the range for the machine gunners, and was probably used as a spotting telescope.
The scope comes with a “custom-made” Trench Tripod, which is made from a British Hotchkiss Portative Machine gun “crow’s foot” mounting tripod. It has been trench armorer modified to mount the telescope, with a brass ring at the top.
All absolutely original and to the period of World War One. A “SLEEPER,” just as it came to us out of an attic. Ready to Display or use!
