Original Item: One of a Kind. Here we have a lovely WWI Era British Officer’s pocket watch, held in a very nice silver hallmarked case. There are some very small hallmarks around the stem of the watch, however we cannot make them out. However the inside of the back cover is marked with a “Lion”, a “Shield” and a capital letter “M”. The shield has three “Garbs”, or bundles of grain, around a sword, the coat of arms of Chester, England. The letter “M” in this shape is for 1895, right in period. The inside of the case has the same marking.
The back of the watch is marked as follows:
R. A.
(Broad Arrow)
614 15. P.
“R.A.” is of course for the Royal Artillery, however we do not know what the other markings mean. Most likely a unit or possibly a battery or battalion. The watch is wound using a Number 7 square key on the back, and winds counterclockwise. Unfortunately the movement is currently frozen, and in need of service. Both front and rear covers open correctly.
A very nice WWI Era pocket watch with some great research potential!
