Original Item: One of a Kind. Remember “LAWRENCE OF ARABIA” starring Peter O’Toole well General Allenby was played by the late Jack Hawkins, who also took part in BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI.
Considered one of Britain’s greatest heroes of the First World War, when he became the Conqueror of PALESTINE in the Arab Campaign. He was promoted Field Marshall and created Viscount Allenby of Megiddo and of Felixstowe in the County of Suffolk post-war due to his action in the conflict. The General was born EDMUND HENRY HYNMAN ALLENBY at Brackenhurst, Nottinghamshire, in 1861 and died in 1936.
This is a magnificent sepia-toned portrait photograph, measuring 12″ X 8 1/2″. It was then matted, framed and glazed to measure 18 1/2″ X 15 1/4″. Framed by The Brownstone Gallery in Brooklyn, probably in the 1960’s with his information on the rear near the framer’s label.
