Original Item: Only One Available The 3rd King’s Own Hussars were raised in 1685 as the “Duke of Somerset’s Regiment of Dragoons”, and under various names saw service in almost every British Campaign of the late 17th and 18th century. They were most notably involved in the Battle of Culloden in 1746, at that point known as the “The King’s Regiment of Dragoons.”
This Regimental Busby, made from brown bearskin, bears a red interior, stamped with a golden King’s Crown maker’s mark, though unfortunately the rest is woo worn to be legible. The hanging “bag” to the right side is light blue, actually referred to as “Garter Blue”, is embroidered with lemon yellow braid.
The liner for the busby is in good condition, with the original top tie present. Unfortunately the chin scales and top hackle / plume are completely missing.
Already over 100 years of age this example has weathered with some losses to the bearskin at the edges but the helmet still presents very attractively.
