Original Item: Only One Available. Well this is something we have not seen before! Here we have a British Webley Mark I revolver in .455 Caliber, which was then converted to a display cutaway for training purposes. The left side of the revolver’s frame and cylinder have been cut or ground away, the grips removed, and various parts of the frame drilled out. It was then refinished on various surfaces to prevent corrosion.
This enables almost all of the internal workings of the revolver to be seen It is still able to cycle correctly, so all of the various springs, pawls, and other parts can be seen in action. The inside of the bore can also be seen, which looks to be rather worn. This was a great help to armorers and gunsmiths in training, who would be expected to service these weapons in the field.
The display cutaway still has numerous proofs and other markings on the various components. There is also a partial serial number on the front of the frame, which looks to be 532, with a partial 3 after that. The amount of wear in the bore shows that this was definitely a revolver in service, later converted, possibly due to some type of damage or other issue.
Condition is very nice, and the revolver still cycles nicely. The lanyard loop fitting is still present on the grip frame, but the lanyard loop has unfortunately been removed. The finish is well retained, showing just a bit of wear around the edges. Please note that the revolver cannot break open at the top anymore.
Just a great display piece that would look good in any collection!
