Original British Victorian Silver Pocket Watch in Sam Browne Leather Belt Carrier – Circa 1890 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely British Officer’s pocket watch from the late Victorian era, circa 1890, which continued to be used up through WWI. Wrist watches were not really in much use until WWI, as pocket watches were too bulky, and the ability to make accurate small movements did not exist until the early 20th century. To keep the pocket watches at the ready, they were carried in leather belt carriers, which had a window, allowing the watch to be read and quickly secured away.

This example is in very good condition, with no maker marks that we can see, so it was probably purchased from a military outfitter and customized, though the “shield” on the back has not has any initials added. There is some light wear to the casing, with some small dents. The crystal does have wear and scratching from the leather case, making it a bit hard to read. This could however be polished out. The watch winds correctly and runs, though sometimes it can be temperamental, and needs a small bump to get it running again. It most likely needs a lubrication and servicing.

The leather belt pouch is in good condition, and has a lovely aged dark brown color. It still latches correctly onto the ivory stud, though the hole is worn, so it is no longer secure enough to put on a belt.
