Original item. One of a Kind. This is a lovely British Officer’s plated mess tin complete with leather carrier, privately purchased by “Frederick Gordon Blair, the 26th Laird of Blair Castle“, who lived from 1852 until 1943 aged 91 years. Probably dating to the 1870’s and 1880’s when as a young officer he probably served in Africa in both the Zulu Wars and the Egyptian / Sudanese wars. The leather carrier is stamped with the initials F B.
The tin itself measures just over 5” tall, with an oval top and bottom 3” by 4”, and handles on the back. The leather carrier measures 6”H x 7”W x 3 1/2”.
This lovely mess kit originates from the Blair Castle auction of 2012, with note stating so stuck onto the side of the mess tin itself. Very nice condition.
