Original Item: Only One Available. Traditionally stored in racks on every deck of a British Man-o-War, these were stored without Scabbard for easy access to repel boarders. Scabbards were only issued when these were to be used for shore parties. Our example here is solid and well marked but was damaged in the center blade section at some time. Fully repaired one can still see where the damage occurred if looked at carefully.
The blade measures 22″ and the cutlass is 27 1/2″ in overall length. It is dated ’92 on the ricasso, along with other proof marks, including a WD “War Department” marking.
Very sturdy iron ribbed grip hilt all retaining the original black paint. Hard to find in today’s market.
