Original British Victorian Era Presentation Regimental Silver Plated Goblet with Lid by John Round & Son Original Items

Original Item: One of a Kind. Here we have a very fine Victorian Era presentation regimental goblet, silver plated with lid, measuring almost 14″ in height. Three stacked percussion rifles form the goblet base on a circular disc measuring almost 4″ across. The goblet itself is engraved and is embossed with two Victorian Riflemen set into the side of the bowl, and a third rifleman as the finial to the lid.

The bottom of the goblet does bear British Silver plate Hallmarks and Maker marks, however these are unfortunately quite difficult to identify due to there not really being any standards for markings like their are for Sterling Silver. We however were able to prevail, and have positively identified the maker mark on the bottom as JR & S “Crown” EP, for John Round & Son of Sheffield, England. The “EP” stands for “electro plate”.

The firm was established by John Round in Sheffield in 1847 as a small family workshop attached to his house in Tudor Street. The business proved successful and the firm in partnership with his son Edwin went under the title of John Round & Son (1863). In 1874 the firm became John Round & Son Ltd and in 1886 the business of Ridge, Allcard & Co (Lions Works, Eyre Lane) was amalgamated and John Ridge became the manager.

This maker mark fits right into the late Victorian period and is absolutely correct!The presentation plaque has been left unengraved.
