Original Item: Only One Available. This is one of the nicest and most substantial British Naval Boarding Cutlasses we’ve ever encountered. It was definitely intended for Combat, not for training like the “Lead Cutter”. The blade measures 27″ in length and almost 2″ wide at it’s broadest point. It is heavily stamped on the left side of the blade with a CROWN over “V.R.”, the Royal Cypher of Queen Victoria, who reigned 1837 – 1901.
The hilt is of iron, with a grooved iron grip and a sheet iron shell semi-basket guard, all painted black in standard British Navy fashion. The Cutlass is contained in its ORIGINAL brass mounte heavy leather scabbard with a brass hook to top for wearing with a Baldrick or leather cross belt. It is exceedingly rare to find a scabbard in any condition, much less this very presentable aged condition, with the leather still in one piece.
Certainly the most impressive Cutlass we’ve seen in years, with some deterioration to brass fitting on the bottom of the scabbard, but otherwise great. Ready to display!
