Original Item: Only One Available. Imported from England from a recently dispersed collection upon the death of the owner. This is a traditional British Flintlock Sea Service circa 1800 marked with Crown over G.R. on the Lock plate and TOWER across the tail in unusually small print. All brass furniture and standard full length 12 inch barrel. Comes complete with belt hook and brass tipped ramrod.

The brass trigger guard is faintly stamped QD/5 (Quarter Deck) and along the top of the iron barrel is, now somewhat worn:

H.M.S. COLOSSUS

Proof and acceptance marks are found on the stock, the barrel tang, and breech of barrel.

H.M.S. COLOSSUS , 74 Guns, launched from Deptford Dockyard 23rd. April 1803.

This Man-of-War saw service at the Battle of Trafalgar under Captain James Nicoll Morris, serving in Collingwood’s Column where she captured various French ships, “Swiftsure”, “Orion” and the Spanish ship “Bahama”.

In 1812 H.M.S. COLOSSUS was part of the squadron that captured the American Ship U.S.S. DOLPHIN and a little later the U.S.S. PRINT.

She was placed in storage in 1815 at Chatham once hostilities had ceased and was broken up in 1826.

This is a fine example of a British Naval pistol that may very well have seen battle at Trafalgar and then again in the War of 1812.
