Original item: Only One Available. This old girl has been through the wars and is now all battered and distorted. It still has the 1 PINT IMPERIAL marking around the top rim, and is marked H.M.S. on one side, and AMAZON on the other. It also appears to have had some rather crude ship board repairs….BUT WHERE? There have been 9 X H.M.S. AMAZON’s between 1745 and 1975.
There are TWO distinct possibilities:-
H.M.S. AMAZON launched 1821 as a 46 Gun Frigate, converted in 1844 to a 24 Gun Frigate she was eventually SOLD OFF in 1863.
OR
H.M.S. AMAZON launched in 1908 as a Destroyer that was stationed at DOVER throughout the First Wold War and was finally Broken Up in 1919.
So that’s it, the proof marks are too obscure to accurately read so there are also a couple of unlikely possibilities from the Napoleonic Wars, but that’s for the buyer to decide. We rather suspect it is the first one mentioned, but without easily deciphered proof marks, it is impossible to tell.
A battered old girl BUT will still hold a Pint of Beer! (after a good washing of course!) Ready to display!
