Original Item: One Only. The Traditional Bobby helmet was named after the creator of the British Police Force, SIR ROBERT PEEL, who became Prime Minister under Queen Victoria. This early version, known as a “Rose Top,” features a plated top fitting, in the shape of a rose, hence the name. The front Helmet plate has a Queens’s Crown to top, over a star burst containing a silver E II R Royal Cypher, for Queen Elizabeth II, who has reigned since 1952. There is a circle around the cypher which reads METROPOLITAN / POLICE.
This example looks to be from the 70s or 80s, with a plastic shell, cork lining, and foam rubber padding under a black leather sweat band. There is a drawstring on the back of the liner to adjust the size slightly. The helmet does not have a dress chin strap, just a fabric one with a sliding buckle, which is in very good condition. The exterior is covered with dark blue wool fabric, sewn together with a central seam, and is not the usual felt that we see.
Completely authentic, from the London Police force known as THE MET. In very good condition, ready to display!
