Original British Revolutionary War Era Brass Barrel Flintlock Pistol by Philip Bond of London – c. 1780 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a high quality British Flintlock pistol in just lovely condition, typical of “Private Purchase” weapons used by Officers. It features a half-octagonal 0.63” bore BRASS Barrel measuring 8″, with the pistol being 14″ in overall length. The pistol has brass fittings, and does not have a butt cap. The high quality walnut wood stock is most impressively checkered in a most interesting design around the grip area. It also has a good amount of tiger stripe figuring on the left hand side.

The lock plate is marked P. BOND, for Philip Bond, whose address No 45 CORN-HILL. LONDON is marked on the top of the barrel.  Philip was the son of London Gunsmith WILLIAM BOND, who worked in London from 1768 until 1776. In that year he took on his son Philip in a partnership which lasted until 1800. The barrel has Birmingham Style proof marks, so it was most likely supplied from a Birmingham foundry to their London shop for assembly.

The pistol is in very good shape, with a very nice horn-tipped ramrod still retained under the barrel. The stock does have some stains, but is solid, with some repairs made to the last inch or so of the forestock. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full. Most probably an Officer’s Private Purchase pistol that just might have seen action in the Revolutionary War.
