Original Item: Few Available. While doing some Spring Cleaning, we have unearthed some “new” inventory, mainly bayonets! We came across a very small amount of these British WWII P-1943 MkII* Bayonets for the No.1 MkIII Enfield rifle, often called the SHT.LE, SMLE, S.M.L.E., “Smelly” etc. Commonly known as the “JUNGLE FIGHTING” Bayonet, not to be confused with the Jungle Carbine Bayonet, this essentially was the original P-1907 long S.L.M.E. bayonet made with a 12″ unfullered blade rather than a 17″ fullered one.
Made in India during WW2 all have supporting markings on the blade. The 17″ bladed Bayonets were deemed TOO LONG for Jungle War fare so this was the answer. One year later the P-1944 MkIII* Bayonet followed, but this model had a Squared Pommel which reduced machine time considerably.
In wonderful condition having been released from long term Military Storage in 1978. Each comes with its ORIGINAL custom made short steel mounted leather scabbard. Once plentiful these are now hard to find in such excellent condition.
