Original Item: Absolutely original, just one small carton of fewer than 20 examples found in the IMA warehouse. Originally issued before or during WW1 with a full length 17″ blade then converted in 1942 to 12″ blade for use in Jungle Fighting against the Japanese in South East Asia in WW2.
Fullered blade bearing faint original British markings, painted black overall and reissued after WW2 as Drill Purpose, mostly for bayonet drills. This is an extremely scarce conversion because in 1943 the new made 12″ bladed P-1943 India Pattern Bayonet without blade fuller was adopted and that in turn was replaced in 1944 by the square pommel P-1944 Jungle Fighting Bayonet.
An original British Bayonet that served in both WW1, probably on the Western Front, and then again in WW2 against the Japanese.
Please Note: Photographed exampled cleaned of black paint to reveal all markings.
