Original British Napoleonic Tower-Marked Iron Barrel Blunderbuss for Land Forces c.1793 Original Items

 Original Item: Only One Available. Interestingly this was not intended for the ROYAL NAVY, but for the use of the ARMY being built of Brown Bess Style mounts not of the Naval pattern. This is a relatively early blunderbuss, dating to around 1793, when there was great concern in England that the awful and bloody Revolution in France might come to ENGLAND as well. Fortunately that did not happen, but war with France still broke out and then followed the Napoleonic Wars when Great Britain was greatly afraid on a FRENCH INVASION. Admiral Lord Nelson destroyed the Combined French and Spanish Ships at the BATTLE of TRAFALGAR in 1805 and finally the Duke of Wellington concluded the Napoleonic Wars with his victory at the BATTLE of WATERLOO in 1815. This blunderbuss saw it all!

It is fitted with a Brown Bess Crown over G.R. marked Lock with TOWER across the tail, and all brass Brown Bess style mounts (not Naval). It does appear that this blunderbuss did at one point have a horizontal swivel mounting , since it has a hole across the fore end which accesses a substantial iron ring on the under side of the barrel. This would give a solid connection when mounted on a barricade, a fortress wall or, if needed, a Ship’s Rail.

The metal work well worn but not interfered with, with showing ancient pitting and powder burns, with the walnut stock in good serviceable condition. There have been a few repairs to the stock under the barrel to replace rust rotted wood over the years.  All brass mounts, measuring 37 1/2″ overall with a 21 1/2″ Barrel.

The gun bears British Proof marks on the barrel, and comes complete with iron ramrod.
