Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a fantastic British Napoleonic Royal Navy bronze swivel cannon barrel, made circa 1800 using more precise casting techniques. The 19 1/2″ long barrel features a 7/8″ smooth bore, with all the reinforcing rings along the barrel. It measures 3 1/4″ across the trunions, not counting a square extension on one side, probably used with a devices to maintain the aim.
Of real quality manufacture, these were used with an iron swivel rail mounts to repel boarders on Ships of the Royal Navy, especially when loaded with multiple balls (canister shot) which could devastate a boarding party and take the bottom out of any row boat.
Very heavy for its size, these were essential to any naval war ship of the period.
