Original Item: Only One Available. This is very special and very hard to find. This is a very FINE example of the ROYAL NAVY’S “figure of Eight” Boarding Cutlass as used at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The iron guard is shaped in what is referred to as a figure of eight in that it is constructed of two attached iron discs being both the sword guard and the knuckle guard all cut from one sheet of iron. The iron grip is heavily ribbed for secure grip and the straight single edged blade measures 29″ in length. The blade bears a proof mark of a Crown over S and on the other side a large CROWN over G.R., for King George III (1760 – 1820).
In magnificent condition this cutlass comes with it’s EXTREMELY RARE original heavy leather Scabbard which still has its brass belt frog HOOK still in place. From a very notable British Royal Navy Collection in England this is one of the very best surviving examples of this very rare pattern we have ever seen. In service at the time of Nelson’s great victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, the figure of eight British Naval Cutlass has passed into the Sea Lore of the Royal Navy.
In matured condition, absolutely 100% original, ready to display!
