Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice Napoleonic War era Officer’s flintlock pistol, with an interesting “flat-top” barrel, which is marked LONDON. The size and shape is somewhat reduced, which would make it easier to keep on the inside of a coat, as well as making it weigh less. There is no butt cap, and it is all steel mounted, with lovely engravings. There is a small nickel silver escutcheon on the wrist, which is unmarked.
The lock on this example is marked MOORE, for William Moore, who worked from 1790 until 1835 at 78 Edgware Road in London, and became a Gun Maker to the Royal family. The lock is very well executed, with lovely engraving and a great style. It also has a functional half-cock safety. The barrel has some very nice engraving around the tang, as well as an inlaid nickel silver band.
The stock is quite nice, with a lovely color, no evidence of major repairs, and lovely checkering around the “bag” grip. There is also a “captured” steel ramrod under the barrel, much like the “New Land” pattern pistols that would become commonplace after the Napoleonic wars were over. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
A very nice Napoleonic era Officer’s Flintlock Pistol that would enhance any Collection. Ready to display!
