Original Item. One of a Kind. This is a fantastic original British corrected proof of an etching dated 1807 of an incident that occurred during the Battle of Laswari. This famous battle took place in 1803, and the etching depicts General Lord Gerard Lake, with his son Colonel Lake, at the point in the battle where the General had his horse shot from beneath him. This is stated in the proof itself under the etching.
This Napoleonic wars battle took place in India against the French supported Marathas in the 2nd Anglo – Maratha war. A most expensive battle the British took 800 killed, including Lord Lake’s son, illustrated in the etching, and the Marathas sustained over 7000 killed. In a lovely period glazed mahogany frame measuring 29 1/4″ x 25 1/4″.
