Original Item: Only one Set Available. In Victorian times, British society spanned from great wealth to great poverty, Great for those that had but maybe not for those that didn’t. Young Gentlemen went of Safari, they entered Politics and the joined the Army to become Officers. On Safari or on campaign the basic amenities of life had to be maintained. Probably nowhere better is this underlined than at the meal table. Natives, batmen and other servants scrambled to supply the service not enjoyed by the Rank and File.
Here we have a very up market Field Cooker Set of the absolute very TOP QUALITY consisting of:- Its Kerosene burner with wick, its hood or heating platform and its very fancy field bowl/cup with lid and fold out gripping loops. Even the bowls lid has a ring for removing and this has been thoughtfully bound in rattan to insulate from the heat. All very heavily Nickel plated or stainless steel in the most wonderful condition, even maybe 150 years of age. There is some water scale on the inside of the bowl/cup, so this was definitely used at least a little bit. All contained in a high quality leather lidded carrier. Truly magnificent!
These were extensively used by Officer’s serving in the trenches in the First World War but date back to the Zulu Wars of the 1870’s. The bottom of the burner has some markings, but it is other wise unmarked, even on the leather. However, this is clearly the craft of some first rate London Outfitter. Only for the use of the “Upper Crust.”
