Original Item: Only One Available. This guy was somebody. The head of the Regiment is always a FULL COLONEL, there are usually only TWO Lieutenant Colonels, so who ever this guy was, he was of real importance. His name is actually on the maker’s label in ink but we can not make it out. There is however a barely legible date of 12.5.80.
The tunic was made by:
MILITARY OUTFITTERS
MEYER & MORTIMER LTD.
6, SACKVILLE STREET, LONDON, W.I.
This is literally around the corner from the famous SAVILLE ROW, where England’s finest tailors are found. The label also states :- By Appointment to H.M. the Queen.
Beautifully lined with masses of gold Bullion to collar and cuffs, complete with ALL gilt Regimental buttons this certainly is about as good as it gets. Measures approximately a 36-38 inch chest, with a 32 inch waist. These uniforms were all bespoke and fitted exactly to the wearer.
We suspect that after service, this tunic was displayed in a window, possibly by the maker, and as a result the red to the front of the tunic is somewhat faded. Nevertheless a great display item from a high ranking Officer in the Coldstream Guards.
