Original Item: Only One Available. The lock is marked WILKINSON, and the top of the barrel at the breech is proofed. Blade and ladder sights, with two barrel bands, fore-end cap, sling swivels and iron ramrod. Nice dark patina finish with a smooth straight walnut stock and an iron buttplate. Bayonet lug for P-1856 Yataghan Sword Bayonet mounted on right side of forward barrel. Barrel is 33 inch round in .577 caliber.
Condition of this percussion rifle is very good. The rifle retains some original finish with the balance a smooth brown patina with the barrel bands having a mottled gray patina. The stock is fine with a few minor dents, pressure marks, and scuffs. There is some pitting on lock plate and top of barrel breech. Bore has visible rifling, with 5 lands and grooves.
The bayonet P-1856 Yataghan Sword Bayonet is a very nice. The length of this Pattern 1856 sword bayonet extended the reach over a traditional socket bayonet issued with the three band long Infantry rifle. Bayonet is WD marked and dated 1889 with various inspector and acceptance markings.
This grip is checkered hard leather and all mounts are steel. The yataghan blade is in lovely bright shiny condition showing only storage marks and slight 170 year old imperfections to the steel, blade measures almost 23 inches, the bayonet measured 28.5 inches in overall length making this a fine example worthy of any collection and locks tightly onto the rifle.
