The British E.I.C. administration based in Culcutta in the North were already concerned with Burmese expansionism, and landed a 10,000 man force at the Port of Yangon in May of 1824. The war took two years to conclude, with the complete capitulation of the Burmese forces coming after the Battles of DANUBU in September and PROME in December of 1825. Finally a Treaty was signed in February 1826 at YANDABO bring Burma ultimately under British control.
The Silver Medal depicts the Elephant of Ava crouching before the British Lion under a British Union Jack flag with the Burmese flag submissively lowered. The rear of the Medal shows a scene of the storming of the Pagoda at Rangoon with a message in Persian stating:-
