Original item: One of a Kind. Originating from an old East India Company Collection in England and just arrived. This is the very best ORIGINAL Signal Cannon we have ever seen: this is nothing short of just wonderful. The Bronze 14 1/2″ Barrel has an iron core in approximately .75 caliber, the same size as the then Brown Bess bore of 3/4 of an inch. The rear top side of the barrel is engraved with the E.I.C Heart logo over the date of 1804.
It is mounted onto a single trail field carriage built exactly as those used by the British and E.I.C. armies at that time. The carriage has large wood twelve spoke wheels with iron tires measure 13 1/2″ tall, with a wheel base measuring 18″. The single wood trail has iron fittings and masses of brass fretted overlays in geometric designs. On either side of the barrel there are even two Gunner’s seats and the barrel is fitted to a working screw thread elevation device, just as used on the battlefield. The total assembly measures 32″ in length and 13″ at its tallest point.
As I said, this is wonderful, totally authentic and of the period. The iron lining was to increase the strength of the barrel, but it is somewhat oxidized, so this should definitely be inspected by a competent Gunsmith if you wish to celebrate the 4th of July with it. However we are offering this as a Collector’s Item and DO NOT RECOMMEND firing it. This would definitely make someone very happy, sitting by their fireplace.
