Original Items: One Set Only. Almost everybody remembers the great 1964 Movie called “ZULU” starring Michael Caine and Stanley Baker, portraying one of Great Britain’s Military Disasters, followed by the remarkable defense of the Mission Station at Rorke’s Drift in 1879. A spectacular movie, which is a favorite of Military Collectors everywhere.
Here we have a genuine British made White Colonial pattern Pith Helmet, less chin strap, although identical to the 1880 period this example made about 30 years later still for Colonial use. The helmet is marked with a size stamp 7 / 57, and under the leather liner band it is named to BOB MATTHEWS, with a 6 7/8 size marking. The top has a label that reads WATERPROOF / TROPICAL HELMET and MADE IN ENGLAND. There is definitely evidence of wear on the inside, and the outside has been nicely blanco’d.
A fine example which comes together with a modestly framed Regimental Cast photograph, taken in 1964, of the cast of officers and men from the Movie “ZULU”, playing the 24th Regiment of Foot, the very famous Regiment who took part in the original action. The framed photograph measures about 19”W x 13”h x 3/4″, and is in black & white.
Almost a must for any Victorian British Military Collector, especially if you own a .450/577 MARTINI HENRY short lever Rifle. Ready to Display!
