Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very typical example of a British 1960s issue Fire Brigade helmet, painted the standard black color. It is constructed of thick cloth covered cork or pith, which is covered with canvas on the outside, and green oilcloth on the inside. It has a leather liner, which is embossed by the maker HELMETS LTD of WHEATHAMPSTEAD, and still has the original chin strap, though it is damaged. The keepers at the ends are torn through, and the securing stud is missing.
Lightweight and strong, these were a good alternative to the earlier metal helmets, though once synthetic materials were available, they were quickly made obsolete. Still, they really do look impressive. Ready to display!
