A Presentation engraved British Officer’s Sword marked ‘B.THURKLE, MAKER, 104 HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON’ with steel three bar hilt, wire wrapped sharkskin grip incorporating the Victorian Crown over Hunting Horn Regimental Cypher, complete in it?s original all steel issue scabbard.
The 32′ blade is fully engraved and embossed for two thirds of it’s length bears Stand of Arms amid intricate foliate engraving on one side and large presentation inscription also amid the same foliate engraving on the other.
The presentation reads:-
‘ PRESENTED TO LIEUTENANT J.MAY, 26TH. R.A. VOLUNTEER RIFLES,
AS A MARK OF ESTEEM FROM A FEW FRIENDS. 12TH SEPTEMBER 1862′
(R.A. means ‘ROYAL ARTILLERY’).
This is a very fine presentation Sword of top quality given to a young Officer by his friends or family, and it made a splendid gift indeed!
