Original Item: Only One Available. Forage cap is the designation given to various types of military undress, fatigue or working headwear. These vary widely in form, according to country or period. The coloured peaked cap worn by the modern British Army for parade and other dress occasions is still officially designated as a forage cap.
This forage cap is an excellent example of the Belgian M1916 forage cap which still retains the Divisional number on the front left side. The cap itself is in wonderful condition but does have scattered moth nips present in the wool body. The interior still retains the 1” wide leather sweatband which has cracking present in the finish but no extensive damage.
A wonderful example ready for further research and display.
3rd Infantry Division (Belgium)
At the start of World War I, the 3rd Infantry Division was known as ‘3rd Division’, since they were one of only Seven active divisions of the Belgian Army in 1914. Commanded by Lieutenant-General Gérard Leman, the headquarters are at Liege. The 3rd Division was composed of the 9th, 11th, 12th, and 14th Mixed Brigades, all of which are formed from Regiments of-the-line. Cavalry support comes from the 2nd Lancer Regiment, with artillery from 3rd Artillery Regiment.
