Original Belgian Percussion Cadet Musket with Liège Markings – dated 1863 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. At first glance, this looks to be a very good example of a typical Belgian Percussion Musket made for the Export market. However, once you get closer, it’s clear that it is in fact a scaled down “cadet” version, intended for training in military schools. It features a 30″ smooth bore barrel and full iron mounts. It features two barrel bands, nose cap and original iron ram rod.

The lock plate is unmarked, however the barrel is marked with both “Perron” Tower of Liège by the cap bolster, and the E / L G / * in an Oval Liège proof mark on top of the breech. There is also an * / H Belgian inspector marking, and the left side of the breech is marked with a date of 1863. The last digit of the date is partial and quite faint, but using a 16X magnifier, we can see enough to be fairly certain that the last digit is a “3”. The side plate of the lock is marked 3 / 34, most likely the rack number for whatever school this was used at. There are also proofs on most other metal components of the musket.

Measuring 45″ in overall length this is a perfectly “scaled down” percussion line musket of the type used by Military Cadets in Belgium and France. Condition is very good, showing it saw only moderate use while in service. The inside of the barrel does show fouling and oxidation, so it was definitely fired a bit, and most likely not cleaned afterwards. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
