Original Item: Only One Available. This is one of the earliest styles of breech loading revolvers, introduced circa 1865/1870 in 9mm or .38 caliber. This style still retains many muzzle loading Percussion revolver features. There is a lever under the 5″ octagonal barrel with a knob on the under side. When retracted toward the butt the lever will fold down allowing the barrel assembly to be pulled forward. This allows the cylinder to be removed and then manually reloaded, as there is no provision to reload the revolver with the cylinder still in place in the weapon.
The entire frame and cylinder are beautifully scroll engraved and bear a serial number 4175 which matches the one on the barrel assembly. There are the initials T M D in script under a crown, but we have not been able to identify these. The cylinder is also stamped with the Belgian E. / L.G. / * in an oval marking, indicating manufacture in the legendary gun-making city of Liège, Belgium. It also has some Crown / N German proof markings and other proofs. The grip are checkered wood, somewhat worn but totally original.
A very smart and rare EARLY cartridge Revolver produced during or just after the Civil War. In full operating order and very good condition. Definitely an interesting revolver to add to your collection.
