Original Belgian .32 Rimfire Open Top Revolver for U.S. Market circa 1870 – Liège Proofed Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice “Open Top” six shot .32 caliber Rim Fire Revolver, which at first glance would appear to be for Pinfire ammunition. The pinfire cartridge was introduced in the early 1860’s and featured a pin sticking out of the side of the cartridge case. The hammer on these mostly “open top” revolvers smashed down on the pin, discharging the load and firing the weapon.

The rimfire cartridge was a great improvement over the PinFire system, and was introduced around 1870. The new system immediately became popular, which resulted in pinfire type revolvers being made in rimfire. This is just such a case. These were made in large quantities, and many were imported into the U.S. during the 1870s.

The revolver was originally all nickel plated, and the cylinder is stamped with the Belgian E. / L.G. / * in an oval marking, indicating manufacture in the legendary gun-making city of Liège, Belgium. It also has some Crown / L markings and other proofs. Unfortunately a lot of the nickel plating has flaked or worn off over the years, however functionally the revolver is still sound, with a good action and cylinder lockup. The loading gate is still present, as is the ejector rod.
