Original Item: Only One Available. We just received this lovely example uut of an old collection. This lovely Belgian-made shotgun has 32″ barrels, marked BELGIUM – REAL TWIST on the center top strap. These are spiral forged, and would have been most attractive when originally made. The shotgun measures 48″ in overall length.
The barrels are marked with both the “Tower of Liège” proof mark, as well as E / L G / * in an oval under the stock, indicating manufacture and inspection in Liège, Belgium. This small country, which only gained independence in the early 19th century, had long been a firearms production powerhouse, with Liège being the center of manufacturing. There are additional markings on the underside of the barrels, which are proof and specification markings.
The side action percussion locks are engraved but not signed as these were intended to be marked with the American Gun Smith’s name before sale in the United States. The shotgun breaks down correctly by removing the barrel wedge, which allows the barrel markings to be seen. Ramrod is somewhat interesting, and seems to be missing the brass tip. The locks both require adjustment, as the right side has no half cock, and the left does not hold at half or full cock. The butt plate is somewhat loose, and one of the original screws has been replaced.
Used by Coaching Lines, Law Enforcement or just the civilian population these were an absolute must on the frontier.
A nice old shotgun, ready to restore or display as is!
