Original Austrian WWI Mannlicher M1895 Rifle Bayonet by ŒWG Steyr with Muzzle Ring Sight & Scabbard Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Austrian-made NCO bayonet for the Mannlicher Model 1895 straight pull bolt action Rifle, which was the principal Rifle of the FIRST WORLD WAR for the Austrian Empire. The M1895 bayonet was the first knife bayonet to feature an inverted blade profile, where cutting edge faces upward when fixed. This particular example is interesting in that it has a front sight fitted on top of the bayonet crossguard. This is a very rare version used with the Mannlicher M1895 Cavalry Carbine.

The bayonet is stamped with Œ over WG, the marking for Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft (Austrian Arms-Manufacturing Company), abbreviated as ŒWG. Steyr Mannlicher firearm production was a part of this company. The reverse ricasso of the bayonet has the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s Eagle proof mark stamped. The scabbard has a U in a circle on the frog button, for Moravske Ocelarny (Moravian Steelworks), which is now part of the Czech republic, but was under the rule of Austria until 1918.

Condition of the bayonet is very good, with the original bright finish still well retained, with very little oxidation or damage of any kind. There is however some wear to the wooden grip scales. The steel scabbard was originally blued, but then painted green, a very common color used during WWI to repaint scabbards. This is now mostly worn away, and there is very little denting of any kind on the scabbard.
