Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful uniform that belonged to a member of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) during the Second World War. The uniform consists of a blue hat, affectionately known as a “duck cap”, and a black silk ribbon encircling its base. The ribbon served to identify the name of the ship to which the wearer was assigned. It was a common practice for RAN personnel to wear such ribbons to show their affiliation with a particular vessel. However, during the latter part of the war, many ribbons bore only the letters “HMAS” or “RAN” for security reasons, as seen on this example.
It is fascinating to note that the uniform items are in great condition even after all these years and provides a glimpse into the life of a sailor during one of the most tumultuous times in modern history.
This uniform set is a complete package that includes a “jumper” with a scarf and specialty patches, trousers, a “Donald Duck” Cap with HMAS tally, a white sea bag, a white jumper, and “bring back” items. Every item in the set is in wonderful condition, but it is worth noting that some moth nips and staining, especially on the white articles of clothing, may be present. Despite this, there is no significant damage to the uniform set, although it does appear to have been used during the war. As a result, minor imperfections such as discoloration, fading, or wear and tear are expected.
A great grouping of items that comes more than ready for further research and display.
