Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely print of Richard Taylor’s painting ARCTIC HUNTERS, measuring 33 ⅞” x 23 ¼”. This is number 30/60 of a very limited run of these prints made for collectors, called the “Polar Front” Edition with four signatures. Others were available with only two signatures, or none, and this signed example will make a fantastic display piece on any wall once put in a frame. This and many other prints were published by The Military Gallery in Wendover England over the past 20+ years.
The print is best summarized in the paragraph below the framed print, which reads:
ARCTIC HUNTERS
by
Richard Taylor
Soaring above the towering peaks of ice capped mountains glistening in the cold polar air, Oberleutnant Heinrich Ehrler leads the Me109s of 6./JG5, based at Petsamo, on a dawn patrol as they keep constant vigil along the glacial fjords of Norway’s far-northern coastline during March 1943.
The majestic vista gives the battle hardened Me109 pilots a moment of tranquility far removed from the grim and bitter battles being fought on icy lands to the east, and on freezing seas to the west.
Additionally, the print is signed by artist Richard Taylor on the far left, with the following signatures of FOUR German Luftwaffe Personnel, two of them highly decorated Ace pilots with over 200 aerial victories!
– Oberleutnant Walter Schuck – Ace with 206 Aerial Victories Claimed – Knights Cross with Oak Leaves
– Hauptmann Karl-Fritz Schlossstein
– Major Erich Rudorffer – Ace with 222 Aerial Victories Claimed – Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords
– Unteroffizier Gunther Kolb
A great display item ready for further research and display!
