Original Item: Only One Available. This really is a very nice example of an Argentine Model 1909 Artillery Short Sword or Machete. Intended to be used by Argentine elite troops in the Argentine jungle and by the artillery, this fine example comes complete with its original scabbard. Unlike earlier examples, this one was made domestically, instead of being imported from Germany.
What is special about this example is that the ARGENTINE CREST is still visible on the ricasso of the blade. These were ordered removed or defaced by Argentine Government order before Export so consequently those with crests are particularly RARE. There looks to have been no attempt to remove it, E – A is marked under the crest is for Ejercito – Argentino, or the Argentine Army.
The other side of the ricasso bears the Argentine maker’s information:
INDUSTRIA
ARGENTINA
J.C. SUAREZ & CIA
The short sword and scabbard are marked with matching serial number G04892.
Offered in very good condition, this is definitely one of the better examples we have seen. It just has a bit of light staining on the blade and hilt, and the blade was never sharpened. With a visible crest, this really is a step above. The scabbard is also in great shape, with lots of the original bluing. This looks to be a short sword that was worn in service for a time, but not used very much.
