Original 19th Century Ottoman Silver Inlaid Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol with Rifle-Style Stock – circa 1800 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This comes from an old U.S. Collection formed in the 1950’s and 1960’s that we have just received, and is basically untouched from 50 years in storage. Dating from about 1800, this is a flintlock blunderbuss pistol from the Ottoman Empire, which was based in Constantinople in what is today known as Turkey. At the time the empire ruled over the majority of the Islamic world.

The overall length of this blunderbuss pistol is 23″, with the barrel itself measuring 14″. The barrel and lock are enhanced with inlaid Silver decorations, and the stock is also inlaid with silver wire and carved decoration. Interestingly, the stock is carved into the shape of a rifle with a butt stock, despite being intended for use as a handgun. It has the typical imitation faux ramrod carved into the stock design, as the true ramrod was carried separately on a thong around the neck.

Strangely the “trumpet” of the Blunderbuss front of the barrel is made of a separate piece and brazed to the muzzle but is still decorated with the silver inlay design en suite. This means that the bore is mostly around .70″ for most of the length, only flaring out towards the last 2 inches.
