Original Item: Only One Available. This example is unmarked, but was almost certainly made in France around 1750. What we have here is a Gun Powder tester, used to determine the strength of a mixture of ingredients when producing gunpowder. It has a nice typical French carved “Bird’s head” wood grip on the stock, and is complete with iron trigger guard and lock side plate.
The teeth on the “Saw Wheel” are each numbered from from One to Eleven, and the more potent the mixture the higher the number recorded on the saw wheel after testing. A simple system which is quite self evident. Unusual to find in such complete and undisturbed condition, ready to display!
