Original 18th Century English Queen Anne Style Flintlock Pistol by Willets with Screw Off Cannon Barrel Original Items

Original Item: Only one available. This is very rare “Queen Anne” style flintlock pistol, made by Jon Willets in the mid-late 18th century. Originally from Wednesbury, Willets operated shops in London and Birmingham between 1744-1789. He is listed as a maker of Flintlock Holster Pistols and Sporting Guns.

The iron lock plate is somewhat decorated with engraving, and the bottom of the barrel is marked WILLETS just before the screw joint. The pistol measures 12 inches in overall length, with a 5 1/4 inch screw off cannon barrel, in the typical “Queen Anne” style. The pistol has an iron trigger guard, and there is no provision for a ramrod, not needed with the removable barrel.

The pistol is mostly iron and steel back to the trigger guard, after which it is fitted with a nice walnut stock. There is a lovely silver escutcheon on the back of the grip, and the bottom of the grip has a Hallmarked silver grotesque masked butt cap.

Condition is very nice, with a lovely patina. Most of the engraving is still clear, and really adds to the piece. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing full. There are however some burrs on the tumbler, so there are a few extra “clicks” before it gets to the fully cocked position.
