Original Item: Only One Available. Janbiya, also spelled janbia, jambiya, and jambia (Arabic: ?????? janbiyah), is the Arabic term for dagger, but it is generally used to describe a specific type of dagger with a short curved blade. The term janbiya is used in various Arab countries and India, it is closely associated with the people of Yemen and is prevalent among Muslim men in the Horn of Africa (primarily the Afars of Djibouti).
Our example associated with the Saharan camel riding Nomads is flamboyantly decorated in sheet silver. The back of the scabbard and hilt also show the use of brass and the part of the hilt directly behind the blade shows the use of some enamel decoration.
Mostly worn to impress, the money was spent on the presentation of the weapon, whereas the blade, measuring almost 9″ is all business, being plain, curved and sharpened on both sides.
Scabbard comes complete with two large brass rings, almost 2 inches in diameter, for attachment to waist belt.
Impressive Arab JAMBIA Dagger dating from the late Victorian era to WW1.
