Original Item: One of a Kind. Possibly one of the most romantic helmets, usually found in connection to the New World. In truth the Spaniards used a slightly different style, without a Comb but a higher crown. COMB MORIONS were used all over Europe especially in the various German States, England, France and Italy.
Those from the City of Nuremberg (Nürnberg) very often had raised panels on each side, often “Fleur de Lis” designs. The raised panels were polished to bright steel with the back grounds being painted black. This was often also carried over to the the breast plates and leg armor of the day.
Our particular Comb Morion we received from probably the most respected dealer source in the industry. The helmet retains its hanging ear defenses missing from 90% of encountered examples. Unfortunately the leather on one gave way long ago, but it still with the helmet, and could be repaired.
ABSOLUTELY 100% ORIGINAL in really fine display condition, dating from 1550 thru 1680. This has sat in the office of IMA Director Christian Cranmer over the last decade and it sadly is time for him to let this one go. A rare helmet, ready to add to your collection and display!
