Original Item: Only One Available. Included in our Royal Nepalese Army purchase of 2003 was this magnificent Indian Bronze Cannon, fully decorated measuring 66″ overall and 15″ across at the trunnions. The swamped muzzle it 9″ across with a bore size of 3.375″ making this a 4-Pounder. The Cascabel on the rear has been lost, most probably “in action” as by tradition this Cannon was taken by the 6th Madras Light Infantry at the Battle of Seringapatan in 1799.
This was the final battle of the fourth Anglo-Mysore War in which the King of Mysore, Tippu Sultan was finally defeated and killed. A well-known book “Sharpe’s Tiger” tells a fictitious narrative about this campaign led by Sir Arthur Wellesley, later The Duke of Wellington.
Apparently this Cannon was presented to the Royal Nepalese Army led by Jang Bahadur after Nepal had contributed 12,000 infantry to assist the suppression of the Great Sepoy Rebellion of Indian Mutiny of 1857/58. Documentation from Nepal available and comes with the purchase of this cannon. Warehouse to door Truck Freight service within the Continental 48 states is included in the purchase price.
