Original Item: Metal case with hinged lid for small replacement parts for the MG 34 Machine Gun. This case is shown in one of the great training charts the Wehrmacht produced during the Second World War. The training chart is shown in German Machineguns, revised edition, Daniel D. Musgrave page 303 (Ironside International Publishers, Alexandria, Virginia,1992).
The case is item 23 in Tafel 5, Zubehor u. Übungsgerät (Chart 5, Accessories and Training Equipment). The case was never assigned a specified list of contents. (The parts shown are for illustration only and are not sold with the case.)
Made of light-gage sheet steel, it was plated with tin and sometimes painted to resist corrosion. All of ours have seen use, so there is wear to the plating and paint, although all are sound and in good condition. Accessories like this, small and easily lost, rarely survived the war, so this is a scarce item, much scarcer than the MG 34 itself.
