Original Item: Elevating dials were used until 1918, when they were removed and scrapped. They were replaced by indicating marks place directly on the elevating wheel itself. They are very rarely seen. See Dolf Goldsmith, The Grand Old Lady of No Man?s Land, page 463. The dial is made in two haves which screw together and clamp to the elevating wheel. In our trials, they only fit onto brass elevating wheels. The steel wheels are apparently a little larger. Since most of the elevating dials were scrapped, few have survived. IMA has only two.
