Original Item: First introduced into the British Fire Service in the Victorian era of the 1800s these “Merryweather” pattern helmets were used to fight fires right up until WW2. Today they are still used for Ceremonial Parades and Royal events (and we all know Firemen love Parades!).
IMA has, for several years, been obtaining these helmets from the U.K. Supplier to the British Fire Service on a “when available” basis. Now we are told the U.K. Company is closing and these few are likely to be the very last we’ll see.
Beautifully constructed from 100% brass for Regular Firemen, Officer’s got a silver plated version, each comes in nearly un-issued or restored condition with new leather liner and each of course has massive comb on top and impressive front plate badge showing crossed fire axes, and comes complete with brass scaled chin strap. Modern technology have pushed these wonderful helmets into obscurity and they can now only act as reminders of the glorious past.
