Original Item: Only One Available. Well this is something that we have not seen before! The German Youth Organization (HJ) held all types of events during the NSDAP period. As with most aspects of German life during the period, colorful signs and insignia wwere used to instill a sense of unity. What we have here is an HJ Wimpel (Pennant), which is marked on one side in goldgelb (gold yellow) thread with Spielschar Heining (Game / Playing Group Heining). We believe this was for some type of game or competition hosted by the HJ.
The pennant itself is in very good condition, and measures about 19″ by 29″, with three small spring clips on the header. The front side of the pennant is blue, with the lovely embroidered “Game Group Heining” writing. The reverse is black, with the HJ Diamond insignia stitched on. The insignia is of multi-piece construction, so each color is a different piece of fabric. It has the standard red/white/red background, with a white diamond containing a black swas (Hook Cross) sewn onto it.
Conditions is just great, and this will make a great and colorful display piece!
The HJ or jugend, and often abbreviated as HJ in German, was the youth organization of the NSDAP Party in Germany. Its origins dated back to 1922 and it received the name jugend, Bund deutscher Arbeiterjugend (“HJ, League of German Worker Youth”) in July 1926. From 1933 until 1945, it was the sole official youth organization in Germany and was partially a paramilitary organization; it was composed of the HJ proper for male youths aged 14 to 18, the German Youngsters in the HJ (Deutsches Jungvolk in der jugend or “DJ”, also “DJV”) for younger boys aged 10 to 14, and the League of German Girls (Bund Deutsche Mädel or “BDM”).
